Minister Raymundas Palaytis awarded his colleague Tsvetan Tsvetanov, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior and other officials who had taken part in the successful operation on the detention of Henrikas Daktaras, a key figure of the Lithuanian mafia

Lithuania has extremely good practices in implementing funds from the Schengen Facility. Lithuania’s experience related to Schengen accession and the preparation of Bulgaria in this area is one of the key points in the Memorandum of Understanding signed today. Exchange between the border police services, joint training projects for Bulgarian law enforcement authorities, and operational police cooperation, are also envisaged in the document. “The problems in our countries in times of crisis are identical”, underlined Minister Tsvetanov. He expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation between the respective police structures for the arrest of the key figure of the Lithuanian mafia, Henrikas Daktaras .
“This case was pointed out as good practice in Europe”, said the Minister of Interior of Lithuania, Mr. Raymundas Palaytis. He expressed personal gratitude to Minister Tsvetanov and awarded him with Insignia of appreciation for exemplary service. The Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior, Mr. Kalin Georgiev was awarded with Insignia of appreciation “Guardian Angel”. The Director of the Directorate for Operational Police Cooperation, Mr. Dimitar Georgiev, the Director of the Chief Directorate for Combating Organised Crime, Mr. Stanimir Florov, the Director of Varna Regional Directorate of Interior, Mr. Dimitar Dimitrov, and police officers who had taken part in the operation, were also awarded.
“The arrest of Daktaras was pointed out as an example of successful police cooperation also at the European Council Summit”, noted the Prime Minister Boyko Borisov who was present at the ceremony. “We prove that in Bulgaria criminals are being traced, arrested, extradited and brought to court. Such operations are of significant importance for the high assessments which we are given abroad. It’s a matter of receiving information from the respective law enforcement partners abroad – in such cases their Bulgarian counterparts are able to make perfect realisations.
We have done our best to give the maximum possible financing to the Ministry of Interior under the conditions of lack of money. I expect the officers of the Ministry to continue the fight against smuggling, drug distribution and drug trafficking, telephone frauds, kidnappings, robberies. Based on the successful operations carried out in the last few months, I have enough reason to say that things are improving”, said the Prime Minister.
