Bulgaria supports the EU Internal Security Strategy crafted by Spanish Presidency

Deputy PM and Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov had bipartite meetings with his Romanian and Greek counterparts. He also had talks with Vice President of the EC Jacques Barrot

Within the framework of his participation in the informal meeting of the EU Ministers of Justice and Home Affairs, held in Toledo, Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov had bipartite meeting with his Romanian colleague Vasile Blaga. Both ministers discussed the forthcoming steps in the process of meeting the criteria for the Schengen zone. Later the subject was discussed with the EC Vice President Jacques Barrot. Minister Tsvetanov expressed gratitude for the extension of the period for absorption of funds in the implementation of the Schengen acquis. Bulgarian Interior Minister assured Mr. Barrot that the negotiated deadline – March 31st, shall be met.
During the first session of the informal meeting the EU Internal Security Strategy crafted by Spanish Presidency was considered. Our country approves the approach set in the Strategy for strengthening the Member States cooperation with Europol, Eurojust and Frontex. Bulgaria also shares the opinion that in a global world the active cooperation with third countries and regions is essential for the EU internal security.
The U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano joined EU interior ministers gathering in Toledo to discuss enhancing security at European airports.
