The accession of Bulgaria and Romania to Schengen will be a key priority for the future Cypriot presidency of the EU

Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov took part in the regular session of the EU  “Justice and Home Affairs”/JHA/ Council

 Within the Council, minister Tsvetanov had informal meetings with the home affairs and immigration ministers of Germany, Holland and Switzerland, and with Cecilia Malmström, European Commissioner for Home Affairs. At the initiative of the future Cypriot presidency of the EU, a tripartite meeting was also held between the interior ministers of Bulgaria, Romania and Cyprus, at which the future presidency stated that the accession of the two countries to Schengen would be a key priority. The three parties discussed specific steps in the next few months, aimed at achieving positive solution on this subject in September.
