Both sides emphasised the excellent cooperation existing between Bulgarian and U.S. law-enforcement services. During the meeting, DEA director Michele Leonhart confirmed that funding has been provided for a regional conference on combating drug-related crime, planned to take place in September this year in Sofia. The forum is expected to involve participants from Middle Eastern countries whose partnership is crucial to drug trafficking investigations. Bulgaria's hosting the regional conference will contribute significantly both to improving coordination between law-enforcement agencies and the exchange of experience. The main topics on the agenda for the upcoming conference will include drug trafficking, money laundering, the tracking of cash flows generated by the drug trade, and the impact of this type of criminal activity on the economy of individual countries.
