Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov: A reasonable assumption can be made that two of the persons, involved in the terrorist attack at Sarafovo Airport, were members of the militant wing of Hezbollah
Throughout the investigation process of the terrorist attack that took place at Sarafovo Airport in 2012 the involvement of three individuals has been established, said Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov after the meeting of the National Security Consultative Council. During their stay in Bulgaria - from June 28th to July 18th last year - the three used fake Michigan IDs. They had submitted the forged documents for car rental services.
The real identity of two of them, with passports from Australia and Canada was revealed. “We have followed their entire activities in Australia and Canada so we have information about financing and their membership in Hezbollah. A reasonable assumption can be made that the two of them were members of the militant wing of Hezbollah”, Interior Minister added. According to data, both of them were living in Lebanon since 2006 and 2010 respectively. The forged driving licenses are printed there. To enter European territory legally they used their genuine passports.
Minister Tsvetanov underlined that Bulgarian government relies on the existing good relations with Lebanon. He announced that part of the forensic investigation orders have already been assigned to the competent authorities in Lebanon, Australia, Canada and to some of the European law enforcement agencies.
Interior Minister Tsvetanov voiced the expectation that Bulgarian authorities will receive full support in the ongoing investigation of the terrorist attack.
